Feodor I

1557 CE1598 CE · Moscow

Feodor I (1557–1598) was Tsar of Russia from 1584 and the last ruler of the Rurikid dynasty. A pious man of frail health and little interest in governing, he left the actual administration of the state largely to his capable brother-in-law Boris Godunov. His reign was relatively stable, but he died in 1598 without a surviving heir, extinguishing the ancient ruling line. His death opened a disputed succession that soon led into the turmoil known as the Time of Troubles.
