K'an II

588 CE658 CE · Caracol

K'an II ruled the Maya city of Caracol (Uxwitza', in present-day Belize) for some four decades from 618 to 658, presiding over the height of its power. Allied to the Snake kingdom of Calakmul, he waged a series of campaigns against nearby Naranjo, culminating in a decisive 'star-war' victory in 631. During his reign Caracol's population and causeway network expanded greatly, and he left a hieroglyphic stairway recording the deeds of his dynasty and its Calakmul overlords.
