K'ak' Uti' Witz' K'awiil (Smoke Imix)

604 CE695 CE · Copan

K'ak' Uti' Witz' K'awiil, known as Smoke Imix, was the twelfth ruler of Copán (Oxwitik) and its longest-reigning king, holding the throne for sixty-seven years from 628 to 695. He greatly expanded the kingdom's reach and population and erected monuments across the Copán valley and beyond. He died at about ninety, an age so venerable that Altar Q identifies him by a glyph for his five k'atuns of life rather than by name.
