Siyaj Chan K'awiil II (Stormy Sky)

Siyaj Chan K'awiil II, 'Stormy Sky,' ruled Tikal until 456 CE and restored the prestige of the local dynasty a generation after the Teotihuacan entrada. He commissioned Stela 31, a masterwork of Early Classic sculpture whose long text and imagery weave together his Maya ancestry and the city's Teotihuacan connections. The monument is among the most important dynastic records to survive from any Maya city.
