Yax Nuun Ahiin I (Curl Nose)

Yax Nuun Ahiin I, nicknamed 'Curl Nose,' was installed as king of Tikal in 379, a year after the Teotihuacan-linked 'entrada' overthrew the old dynasty. Inscriptions name him a son of Spearthrower Owl, apparently a ruler of Teotihuacan, and the early years of his reign were guided by the war-leader Siyaj K'ak'. His accession marks the height of central-Mexican influence at Tikal; he was the father of Siyaj Chan K'awiil II, who portrayed him in foreign warrior dress on Stela 31.
