Bayinnaung

Bayinnaung (1516–1581) was a king of Burma's Toungoo dynasty who reigned from 1550 and assembled what is often called the largest empire in Southeast Asian history. Through a series of campaigns he brought together much of present-day Myanmar along with the Shan states, Lan Na, Lan Xang, and the Ayutthaya kingdom of Siam. His realm was held together largely by personal allegiance rather than lasting institutions, and it fragmented soon after his death, but his reign is remembered as one of the most consequential in Burmese history.
