al-Mu'tamid

Al-Mu'tamid (c. 842–892) was the fifteenth Abbasid caliph, ruling in name from 870 to 892. For most of his reign effective power lay with his brother al-Muwaffaq, who directed military and administrative affairs, including the long campaign to suppress the Zanj rebellion in southern Iraq. Al-Mu'tamid died in 892 and was succeeded by al-Muwaffaq's son al-Mu'tadid.
