Muhammad I

Muhammad I (823-886) was the fifth Umayyad Emir of Cordoba, son of Abd al-Rahman II, reigning from 852 to 886. His long rule was occupied with recurrent frontier revolts and the growing independence of regional lords across al-Andalus, including the early stages of the rebellion led by Umar ibn Hafsun. He worked to maintain Umayyad authority from Cordoba amid these pressures. He was succeeded by his son al-Mundhir.
