Olga of Kiev

Olga of Kiev (c. 890–969) governed the Rus as regent for her son Svyatoslav after the killing of her husband Igor in 945. According to the chronicles she took harsh vengeance on the Drevlians for Igor's death and reformed the system of tribute collection across the realm. She became the first ruler of the Rus to convert to Christianity, being baptized during a visit to Constantinople, and is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches. Her grandson Vladimir later made Christianity the state religion of the Rus.
