Shapur I

Shapur I (reigned c. 240–270 CE), son of Ardashir I, was the second Sasanian King of Kings and consolidated the young empire through long wars with Rome. He is best known for defeating and capturing the Roman emperor Valerian in 260 CE, an event he commemorated in monumental rock reliefs. A great builder, he founded the city of Bishapur and extended Sasanian power across the region.
