Claudius Gothicus
c. 214 CE–c. 270 CE · Sremska Mitrovica
Claudius Gothicus (reigned 268–270 CE) was an Illyrian soldier-emperor, probably born in the Danubian provinces (Dardania or Sirmium) around 214 CE. He is traditionally credited with a major victory over the Goths at the Battle of Naissus (268/269) before dying of the Plague of Cyprian at Sirmium in 270. His brief reign during the third-century crisis left no notable documented interactions with the Jewish, Christian, or Greek philosophical worlds.
