al-Aziz Billah

Al-Aziz Billah (955-996) was the fifth Fatimid caliph, reigning from 975 to 996 and ruling from the newly founded Egyptian capital of Cairo. He extended Fatimid influence into the Levant, contesting control of Syria and taking Damascus. His reign is generally regarded as a period of relative prosperity and religious tolerance within the Fatimid state. He was succeeded by his son al-Hakim.
