al-Qadir

Al-Qadir (947–1031) was the twenty-fifth Abbasid caliph, whose long reign from 991 to 1031 unfolded while the Buyid dynasty held real political power in Baghdad. Despite this dependence, he asserted the caliphate's religious authority, most notably by promulgating the Qadiri creed, a statement of Sunni doctrine directed against rival theological positions. He died in 1031 after one of the longest reigns of any Abbasid caliph.
