Hisham II
966 CE–1013 CE · Córdoba, Spain
Hisham II (966-1013) was the third Caliph of Cordoba, who came to the throne as a child in 976. For most of his reign real power lay with the chamberlain (hajib) Almanzor and his sons, while Hisham remained largely a figurehead. His reign was interrupted and the caliphate itself descended into civil war (the fitna) in the early eleventh century. He died in 1013 amid the disintegration of the Cordoban state.
