Mehmed III was an Ottoman ruler who took the throne in 1595 during the Long War with the Habsburg Empire. He personally led the army to victory at the Battle of Keresztes in Hungary in 1596. His accession was accompanied by the killing of his brothers, an application of the Ottoman practice of royal fratricide. He died in 1603.
