Al-Hakam II (915-976) was the second Caliph of Cordoba, son of Abd al-Rahman III, reigning from 961 to 976. A noted patron of learning, he assembled a large library in Cordoba and drew scholars to his court. He carried out a major expansion of the Great Mosque of Cordoba during his reign. His death in 976 left the caliphate to his young son Hisham II.
