Raden Wijaya
?–1309 CE · Trowulan (Majapahit)
Raden Wijaya (died 1309) was the founder and first king of the Majapahit Empire on Java. In 1293 he cleverly turned a Mongol (Yuan) expeditionary force to his own ends, using it to defeat a rival before driving the invaders off the island, and established his new capital at Majapahit that same year. Reigning until 1309, he laid the dynastic and political foundations of the empire that would rise, under his descendants, to dominate much of the Indonesian archipelago.
