Al-Nasafi (Abu al-Barakat)
?–1310 CE · Baghdad
Hafiz al-Din Abu al-Barakat ʿAbd Allah ibn Ahmad al-Nasafi (d. 710 AH / 1310 CE) was a Sunni scholar of the Hanafi school of law and the Maturidi school of theology, originating from Nasaf in Transoxiana (modern Qarshi, Uzbekistan). He is best known for his Quranic commentary Madarik al-Tanzil wa-Haqaʾiq al-Taʾwil, a concise and widely studied tafsir, and for Kanz al-Daqaʾiq, a compact manual of Hanafi jurisprudence that became a standard reference for later generations of jurists. He taught for a period in Kerman and died at Idhaj (modern Izeh) in Khuzestan, reportedly while returning from a journey to Baghdad.
