Qalawun

Al-Mansur Qalawun (c. 1222-1290) was a Mamluk sultan of Egypt and Syria who came to the throne in 1279. He founded the Qalawunid line, whose members would dominate the Mamluk sultanate for roughly a century. He continued the wars against the remaining Crusader holdings and the Mongols and is also remembered for the large hospital and mausoleum complex he built in Cairo. He died in 1290 while preparing a campaign against the Crusader city of Acre.
