Waxaklajuun Ubaah K'awiil, known as '18-Rabbit,' was the thirteenth ruler of Copán, reigning from 695 to 738. A prolific patron of the arts, he filled the Great Plaza with elaborately carved stelae and rebuilt the ballcourt and temples that mark Copán's classic golden age. His reign ended abruptly when he was captured and put to death by his former vassal, the king of Quiriguá, a defeat that checked Copán's power for a generation.
