Yaxun Bahlam IV, 'Bird Jaguar IV,' was a son of Shield Jaguar II who took the throne of Yaxchilan (Pa'chan) in 752, ending a ten-year interregnum after his father's death. To legitimize a contested succession he commissioned an unusually large body of carved lintels and stelae, along with the hilltop temple Structure 33, celebrating his ancestry, warfare, and ritual. His prolific monuments make his reign one of the best-documented at any Maya city.
