Hisham I

Hisham I (757-796) was the second Umayyad Emir of Cordoba, succeeding his father Abd al-Rahman I in 788. He ruled al-Andalus until 796, consolidating the young emirate and putting down challenges from within his own family. His reign is associated with the promotion of Maliki legal scholarship in the peninsula. He was succeeded by his son al-Hakam I.
