Baji Rao I

Baji Rao I (1700–1740) served as Peshwa, or chief minister, of the Maratha Empire from 1720 until his death. A noted military commander, he led campaigns that greatly expanded Maratha power northward into Malwa, Gujarat, Bundelkhand, and toward Delhi, and is traditionally credited with never losing a major battle. His victory at Palkhed in 1728 against the Nizam of Hyderabad is often cited as a model of mobile warfare. He died of fever in 1740 while on campaign.
