Yongzheng Emperor

The Yongzheng Emperor (1678-1735) was the fourth emperor of China's Qing dynasty, reigning from 1723 to 1735 between the long reigns of his father Kangxi and his son Qianlong. He was an energetic and centralizing ruler who curbed official corruption, reformed taxation and provincial finances, and created a Grand Council that concentrated decision-making at the throne. His comparatively short but industrious reign is generally credited with strengthening imperial administration and finances at the height of Qing power.
