Peter II
1715 CE–1730 CE · St. Petersburg
Peter II (1715–1730) was Emperor of Russia from 1727, becoming ruler at the age of eleven as the grandson of Peter the Great. Because of his youth, real power lay with court factions, first Prince Menshikov and then the aristocratic Dolgorukov family. During his short reign the imperial court moved back to Moscow from St. Petersburg. He died of smallpox in early 1730 at the age of fourteen, the last male member of the Romanov line in the direct male descent.
