Pontiac (Obwandiyag)

Pontiac (Obwandiyag) was an Odawa war leader in the Great Lakes region during the years after the French defeat in the Seven Years' War. In 1763 he helped lead a broad uprising of Great Lakes and Ohio Valley peoples against British forts and garrisons, a conflict later named Pontiac's War. The war contributed to the British Royal Proclamation of 1763, which sought to limit colonial settlement west of the Appalachians. He died in 1769.
