Emperor Taisho

Emperor Taisho (Yoshihito, 1879-1926) was the emperor of Japan from 1912 to 1926, reigning during the era that bears his name. His reign coincided with a period of expanding party politics and liberal currents known as "Taisho democracy," as well as Japan's participation in the First World War on the Allied side. His health, weakened by childhood illness, declined markedly during his reign, and from 1921 his son Hirohito served as regent while he withdrew from public duties until his death in 1926.
