Faisal I of Iraq
1885 CE–1933 CE · Baghdad
Faisal I (1885–1933) was a member of the Hashemite family and a leader of the Great Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule during the First World War. He was briefly proclaimed king of Syria in 1920 before being removed by French forces. In 1921 he became the first king of the newly established Kingdom of Iraq under British Mandate, and he presided over the country's admission to the League of Nations as an independent state in 1932. He died in 1933.
