George V

1865 CE1936 CE · London

George V was King of the United Kingdom and Emperor of India from 1910 until his death in 1936. His reign spanned the First World War, the partition of Ireland, and the early years of the Great Depression. In 1917, amid anti-German sentiment during the war, he changed the name of the royal house from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Windsor. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Edward VIII.
