David Lloyd George was a British Liberal statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1916 to 1922. As Chancellor of the Exchequer before the war he introduced early measures of social insurance, and as prime minister he led Britain through the final two years of the First World War. He was a leading negotiator at the Paris Peace Conference that produced the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. His government also enacted the settlement that partitioned Ireland.
