James K. Polk

James K. Polk was the 11th President, serving from 1845 to 1849 as a Democrat. Under his administration the United States expanded to the Pacific, acquiring vast territory through the Mexican-American War and the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. He also settled the Oregon boundary with Britain, extending the nation's reach across the continent.
