James Madison

James Madison was the 4th President, serving from 1809 to 1817 as a Democratic-Republican. Known as the 'Father of the Constitution' for his central role at the 1787 convention and in the Bill of Rights, he had served as Secretary of State under Jefferson. As President he led the nation through the War of 1812 against Britain.
