K'inich Kan Bahlam II
635 CE–702 CE · Palenque
K'inich Kan Bahlam II was the eldest son and successor of Pakal the Great, ruling Palenque from 684 to 702. He completed his father's unfinished works and built the Cross Group—the Temples of the Cross, Foliated Cross, and Sun—whose carved panels set out the mythology and divine ancestry of the Palenque dynasty. His reign continued the artistic and architectural flowering that made Palenque a model of Classic Maya kingship.
