Kilij Arslan I
1079 CE–1107 CE · Nicaea (Iznik)
Kilij Arslan I was a sultan of the Seljuks of Rum in Anatolia who re-established the sultanate's power after the death of his father Suleiman I. He fought the armies of the First Crusade as they crossed Anatolia and lost his capital, Nicaea, to the Byzantines and Crusaders in 1097. He later extended his authority eastward toward the Euphrates. He drowned in the Khabur River in 1107 while campaigning near Mosul.
