Lady Six Monkey 'War Quechquemitl'

?1101 CE · Jaltepec (Anute)

Lady Six Monkey 'War Quechquemitl' was a Mixtec queen of Jaltepec (Añute) whose life is recorded in the same codices that tell of Eight Deer Jaguar Claw. Attacked by rival lords, she led campaigns of retribution against her enemies and secured her position through a marriage alliance that joined two ruling houses. Her interwoven story of vengeance and statecraft makes her one of the few Mixtec women whose deeds are documented in detail before the Spanish conquest.
