K'inich Ahkal Mo' Nahb III

678 CE · Palenque

K'inich Ahkal Mo' Nahb III came to the throne of Palenque in 721, a generation after Pakal's line, and revived the kingdom's tradition of royal monuments. He commissioned the Temple XIX and Temple XXI platforms, whose finely carved panels rank among the masterpieces of late Palenque sculpture and record his accession and rituals. His reign marks the last great artistic flourishing of the city before its decline.
