Marwan II
691 CE–750 CE · Harran
Marwan II (c. 691–750) was the last Umayyad caliph to rule from Damascus, reigning from 744 to 750 amid ongoing civil war and the Abbasid revolution. His forces were decisively defeated by the Abbasids at the Battle of the Zab in January 750, ending Umayyad rule in the east. He fled through Syria and Palestine to Egypt, where he was pursued and killed in August 750.
