Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik

Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik (c. 691–743) was the tenth Umayyad caliph, whose long reign from 724 to 743 was marked by administrative consolidation and financial reform. His government faced sustained pressure on multiple frontiers and internal revolts, including a large Berber uprising in North Africa in the 740s and continuing warfare against the Byzantines and the Khazars. His death in 743 was followed by a rapid succession of rulers and the instability that led to the dynasty's fall.
