Murad II

Murad II (born 1404) was an Ottoman ruler who consolidated the empire's position in the Balkans and Anatolia after its recovery from the Interregnum. He besieged Constantinople in 1422 and campaigned against Hungarian and Balkan coalitions. In 1444 he abdicated in favor of his young son Mehmed II, but was recalled to lead the army and defeated a crusading coalition at the Battle of Varna in November 1444; he formally resumed the throne in 1446 and reigned until his death in 1451.
