Mehmed I

1386 CE1421 CE · Edirne

Mehmed I was an Ottoman ruler who reunified the empire in 1413 after emerging victorious from the Interregnum that followed his father Bayezid I's defeat by Timur. Often called 'the Restorer,' he re-established central authority over the divided Ottoman lands in Anatolia and the Balkans. He also suppressed the religious and social revolt associated with Sheikh Bedreddin. He died in 1421.
