Chimalpopoca

?1427 CE · Tenochtitlan

Chimalpopoca was the third tlatoani of Tenochtitlan, ruling from about 1417 to 1427. A grandson of the Tepanec overlord Tezozomoc, he saw the alliance collapse after Tezozomoc's death, when Maxtla of Azcapotzalco turned against Tenochtitlan. Chimalpopoca died in the ensuing crisis—by most accounts killed—an event that spurred the Mexica to throw off Tepanec domination under his successors.
