Kangxi Emperor

The Kangxi Emperor was the fourth ruler of the Qing dynasty and, reigning from 1661 to 1722, the longest-reigning emperor in Chinese history. He consolidated the young Manchu regime by suppressing the Revolt of the Three Feudatories, bringing Taiwan under control, and checking Russian expansion through the Treaty of Nerchinsk. A patron of learning, he sponsored major scholarly projects including the Kangxi Dictionary, and presided over a period of stability and cultural achievement.
