Babur

Babur (1483-1530) was a Timurid prince descended from Timur and Genghis Khan who founded the Mughal Empire in India. After losing his ancestral lands in Central Asia, he established himself at Kabul and then moved into northern India, defeating the Delhi Sultanate under Ibrahim Lodi at the First Battle of Panipat in 1526. He consolidated his hold with further victories and left a celebrated memoir, the Baburnama, written in Chagatai Turkic. His conquests laid the foundation of an empire that would dominate the subcontinent for centuries.
