Huayna Capac

Huayna Capac (died 1527) was the eleventh Sapa Inca and the last to rule a united Tawantinsuyu, reigning from about 1493 as the son of Túpac Inca Yupanqui. He spent much of his reign on the northern frontier around Quito, consolidating and defending the empire's newly won provinces. He died suddenly, most likely from an epidemic disease spreading ahead of European contact. His death without a settled succession triggered the ruinous civil war between his sons Huáscar and Atahualpa.
