Mustafa III
1717 CE–1774 CE · Constantinople
Mustafa III was an Ottoman ruler who pursued military and administrative modernization, drawing on European advisers to strengthen the artillery and navy. His reign saw the outbreak of the disastrous Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774, in which Ottoman forces suffered heavy defeats. He died in 1774, before the war's conclusion.
