William McKinley

William McKinley was the 25th President, serving from 1897 until his assassination in 1901, as a Republican. He led the nation through the Spanish-American War of 1898, after which the United States acquired Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. He was shot in Buffalo in September 1901 and was succeeded by Theodore Roosevelt.
