Amda Seyon I

Amda Seyon I reigned as emperor of Solomonic Ethiopia from 1314 to 1344 and is often regarded as a principal architect of the medieval empire. Through a series of campaigns he consolidated control over the highland provinces and extended his authority over neighboring polities to the south and southeast, including the Muslim sultanate of Ifat. His conquests greatly enlarged the state and made it the dominant power in the Horn of Africa for generations. His reign is among the best-documented of the early Solomonic period.
