Az-Zahir Ghazi

Az-Zahir Ghazi (1172-1216) was a son of Saladin who ruled Aleppo as an Ayyubid emir from 1186 until his death in 1216. Over three decades he governed the city with relative stability and was a notable patron of its mosques, fortifications, and the great citadel of Aleppo. He generally maintained his autonomy within the wider Ayyubid family confederation. He was succeeded by his son al-Aziz Muhammad.
