Azriel of Gerona (c. 1160–1238) was a leading Kabbalist and philosopher in medieval Catalonia who played a foundational role in the development of early Jewish mysticism. Active in Gerona, he was deeply versed in both rationalist philosophy and esoteric teachings, and became one of the first to systematize Kabbalistic doctrine into coherent metaphysical frameworks. He authored important works on the Kabbalah, including Kabbalistic commentaries on biblical passages and theological treatises exploring the nature of the divine emanations (sefirot). Azriel influenced and likely taught the next generation of Catalonian Kabbalists, including those who would further develop the Zoharic tradition. He is remembered as a bridge figure between earlier mystical traditions and the more elaborate Kabbalistic systems of the 13th century.

The Geronese circle, including Rabbi Ezra ben Solomon, Rabbi Azriel of Gerona, and Rabbi Jacob ben Sheshet, developed speculative Kabbalah from the teachings of Isaac the Blind, and the city was the birthplace of Nachmanides (Ramban), who absorbed and transmitted this mystical tradition.
