Genghis Khan

Genghis Khan (c. 1162–1227), born Temüjin, was the founder and first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire. After a long struggle he united the rival tribes of the Mongolian steppe and was proclaimed Genghis Khan at a great assembly in 1206. He then led campaigns across Central Asia, northern China, and the Khwarazmian realm of Persia, and organized his state with a disciplined army, a postal relay system, and a written legal code. His conquests laid the foundation of the largest contiguous land empire in history.
